The Babies Room has 6 childcare positions per day for children aged between 6 weeks and 2 years with 2 educators, including a Diploma Qualified Lead Educator and a Cert III Qualified Co-Educator.

The room follows a play-based emergent curriculum. Educators work in partnerships with families to provide a consistent routine for the children between home and the nursery. The children have a flexible routine with progressive meals and indoor/outdoor opportunities happening throughout the day. Educators share tales and pictures of the week from the daycare with families through StoryPark.

The educators and children enjoy venturing out on spontaneous excursions with both of their 4-seat commercial strollers to the local shops, parks, library to investigate and explore their local community and make meaning of the world in which they live.

Educators build reciprocal relationships with the children which assists the children in their social and emotional development. The environment is warm and nurturing, this gives the children the opportunities to build on their physical strength and motor coordination, fine and gross motor skills, hand/eye and eye/foot coordination and full body movement. Singing, reading, music, different sound experiences and educators talking to the children all assist in developing the children’s language.

The Babies Room focuses on using natural materials with a focus on sensory-indulgent areas, where children can explore their environment in different ways. Our sleep room is attached to the play room, and we encourage a relaxing and comforting environment with soft materials and lighting. The younger children are provided with a cot whilst older children are provided with a sleep matt to start the transition period from the babies to the toddler room, as well as progressing from a cot to a bed.

We maintain low ratios to provide the absolute best care for your child and to build trusting relationships with educators and other children.

In the babies room we focus on the social and emotional development of each child and ensure that all children’s needs are met. We focus on developing secure and trusting relationships whilst working towards achieving developmental milestones. We aim to be an extension to home and provide a consistent routine for the children. Our emotions need to be as nurtured as our intellect. It is important to know how to feel, how to respond, and how to let life in so that it can touch you.

With my first I was anxious about going back to work and sending her to childcare, but once I experienced how MELCC was like a home away from home, I had no hesitation with our second… in fact he started early!
